Charity’s Linkworker service highlighted as an ‘excellent development’

Following an announced inspection of HMP Leeds, Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Prisons (HMIP) has highlighted The Disabilities Trust Foundation’s Specialist Brain Injury Linkworker service as “an exciting response to the unmet needs of the significant proportion of prisoners with a history of brain injury and attendant problems.”

Deborah Fortescue, Head of Foundation presented to an audience of health, social care and criminal justice professionals at The National Autistic Society's international conference on the Care and Treatment of Offenders with a Learning Disability in Newcastle on 5th April 2013.

Case studies

Richard was diagnosed with epilepsy at the age of 16, with resultant seizures leading to numerous head injuries. Finding himself homeless, he turned to St George’s Crypt, where he was introduced to the Foundation’s Linkworker.
